FAQ (Frequently asked questions)
1
What are intellectual properties?
Intellectual properties is a term given to intanglible, non-physical assets created by yourself and/or your company which is usually unique, original and important to yourself or your company. It includes:-

1. Trademark: The most prominent and common type of Intellectual property. It relates to the name, logo, brand or other items which identifies the Company or the person, allowing the public to immediately recognise the Company's products and branding. It may even include other unconventional types of identity, such as sound (eg. the 21st Century Fox opening credits music), shape (eg. Zippo lighter shape), colours, etc.

2. Copyrights: Literary and artistic creations. It is a rights given to an author or creator of an particular artistic work, such as a song, a film, art, poems, books etc. Nowadays with the technological advancement in the current times, copyrights law can even cover programming, app coding, database arrangements etc. As long as a particular item involves a level of literary and creativity, it can be protected under copyrights law.

3. Patents: A patent is an exclusive right granted for an invention, which is a product or a process that provides, in general, a new way of doing something, or offers a new technical solution to a problem. It must involve novelty (not disclosed to the public before), inventive step (it must be a new way of doing things that is not obvious to the field) and industrial application (must have a certain level of utility).

Other types of more acute intellectual property rights include Industrial Design, Geographical Indications etc.

Why does my company and/or I require intellectual property registration services?
This is a fast paced world. Consumers and corporates are no longer willing to spend long hours to understand and build a relationship with a company. The importance of branding and your creations (eg. brand names, logos, artistic works) would be important to catch the consumer's short attention span. Having a brand behind your products/services, it conveys quality, loyalty, and reliability to your consumers and/or corporate partners. Imagine the difference of an LV bag (how it relates to luxury, quality and fashionability), compared to an unnamed handmade bag. By all means the handmade one may be better in quality, but it will never reach the heights of a luxurious brand unless it creates a recognisable identity to build upon.

That is where we come in. Whatever you create, we protect. Whether it is your company's name, logo, artistic creations, inventions, we are there to protect it from infringement and to allow the intellectual property to continue its growth and development. We will also assist you in ensuring that the intellectual property is growing in line with the legal confines and compliances, to ensure the longevity of your company, your identity and/or your creations.
